Boat Auction Was Great
Lake Norman Boat Sales, Great Boat Deals Still Available
News release 3/7/2010:
Lake Norman Boat Auction a Huge Success
North Point Watersports of Lake Norman hosted a huge inventory reduction auction of all of its non-current boats, pro-shop items and sundries. The auction was held Saturday March 6, 2010 at the dealership at 973 River Highway in Mooresville NC. The absolute auction was conducted by Iron Horse Auction Company located in Rockingham NC..
According to Dave Natkin, President of the boat dealership, hundreds of people visited the dealership during the inspection period and for the auction held at 11:00 AM Saturday morning. “The past couple of years have been difficult in the marine industry, and our inventory had gotten out of shape. We identified almost 4 million dollars worth of watercraft that needed to go in order for us to reinvest in current models. We sold all of it, some actually sold prior to the auction and the rest sold to the highest bidder at the auction. We sold over 30 units at a total price of almost 1.9 million dollars, but that is right at half of the real value in normal times, and some of the boats actually sold for half of what we paid for them. That makes it a little hard to celebrate, but we do think it was a huge success, we accomplished our goals, and the real winners were all those people that got those great deals!”
Sonny Weeks, the sales manager for Iron Horse Auction Company, agreed that the auction was successful and said that Iron Horse had thousands of hits on their website and telephone calls as far away as Australia and South Africa. Bidders were able to participate online via Proxibid and several of the boats were sold online Saturday during the auction. Auction participants also included local individual boat buyers, dealers, and other speculators. Warren Simmons of Richfield NC said he had “already resold one of the boats he purchased at the auction before leaving the dealership.” It also appeared that several bidders purchased more than one boat.
“This was actually our second auction, and we plan to make it an annual event,” said Natkin, “but we don’t plan on having quite so much holdover stock. Anyone looking for a boat missed a great opportunity to buy, if they were not here, we do still have some great deals on boats that we were not able to get ready for the auction. We adhere to a strict approval process from our floor plan company before a boat can be designated for the auction.”
